Open Call: Art World Horror Stories

Events & News 1 min read

Are you an artist or creative with a spine-tingling story about working in the arts industry? If so, we want to hear from you! This October, NOT REAL ART is seeking “art world horror stories” from artists of any discipline to share with our audience. Please review the details below and submit this interest form by 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday, October 8, if you would like to be considered.

What is ‘Art World Horror Stories’?

Art World Horror Stories is a podcast series about bad things that happen to good artists. Produced by Crewest Studio, the parent company of NOT REAL ART, this series resurrects every Halloween when demand for scary stories peaks. In the past, we’ve covered malicious gallery owners, neglectful shipping companies, and one graffiti artist’s very stinky encounter on the streets of San Francisco.

Why Share Your Story?

While most of us would rather gobble down treats than suffer through tricks, these stories offer insight into some of the baddies you’ll encounter in the art world. By sharing your story, you help create a collective narrative that amplifies the voices of artists who endure these difficult experiences. Not only will you have the opportunity to share your experience with a community of listeners, but every featured artist will also receive a special shoutout and promotion through our podcast platform, including credit in our show notes and links to your website and social media.

Who Can Submit?

We invite working artists and creatives of all disciplines to submit their horror stories! Whether you're a curator, creative director, freelance illustrator, or anything in between, if you've got a tale that raises the hairs on the back of your neck, we want to hear it! Submit your story here.

What Happens Next?

Selected entries will be featured in our upcoming podcast episode, Art World Horror Stories, airing in late October. Selected artists will be notified by email.
