There’s rich, and then there’s stupid rich.
“Luxury” Adjacent, a group exhibition at MASH Gallery, pokes fun at the more ridiculous aspects of consumer culture, in all of its artificial, materialistic glory. Curated by contemporary artist and MASH Gallery founder Haleh Mashian, “Luxury” Adjacent puts bougie vices—drugs, alcohol, luxury brands, sports cars—on display, highlighting the superficial excesses of LA.
The exhibit includes work from Haleh, Trew Love, Jon Pannier, and Marko Gavrilovic. “Emotionally removed and coolly ambivalent, each artist in this exhibition questions what it means when we are addicted, yet unwillingly repulsed by the desire for all our pretty things,” remarks Haleh on the selected works. “It’s a dialogue between the suggestion of an acceptance of popular culture and a shocked withdrawal of its empty promises.”
Liberally sprinkled with “Beverly Pills,” “Luxury” Adjacent is a Hollywood-slick. pun-infused twist on the absurd indulgences that come with money. If you’ve ever dreamt of scarfing down a golden donut or charting the world's oceans in a super yacht, this show could change your tune.
“Luxury” Adjacent is on view at MASH Gallery in West Hollywood through August 20, 2022. For more information, please visit the gallery’s website here. Otherwise, scroll down for a peek of the show.
