Artist Profiles Events & News 2 min read

Blank walls should be filled. Period. Whether you’re holed up in a teeny tiny NYC apartment or a creaky suburban bungalow, your walls are crying out for beautiful decor.

Luckily, you don’t have to break the bank to get some contemporary art up there, thanks to Corey Helford Gallery’s ninth annual Art Collector Starter Kit group show. Featuring affordable new works from over 75 established and emerging artists, the Art Collector Starter Kit IX (ACSK IX) show is the perfect time to collect smaller pieces from artists you love.

Launched in 2013, the show immediately garnered enthusiastic crowds eager for an alternative to expensive, large-scale art. Now in its ninth year, the popular annual exhibit offers collectors with a limited budget the chance to purchase works from their favorite contemporary artists. “[Corey Helford] was created with the intention of making art available to collectors of all ranges, with the radical assertion that ‘art for the elite only’ is a distortion of the real purpose of art—to create something that stirs the hearts and minds of everyone and anyone who can view it,” says the gallery’s owner, Jan Corey Helford. “Every year, the artists are asked to submit works that are 12” x 12” in size and what we receive is an explosion of creativity in a multitude of mediums (including oil, acrylic, charcoal, sculpture, and installation). The result is an exciting and varied show where all in attendance are sure to find something to delight their tastes and ignite their passions.”

Exhibiting artists featured in ACSK IX include NOT REAL ART favorites Hikari Shimoda, Brandi Milne, Travis Lampe, and Messy Desk, among many others—making it Corey Helford’s largest Art Collector show yet. Start thinking about the perfect spot for a pint-size piece of art—your bare walls will thank you.

Art Collector Starter Kit IX is on display in Corey Helford’s main gallery through March 4, 2023, alongside Richard Ahnert’s solo show, While We Wait. ACSK IX show is free and open to the public.
