What does it mean to belong in a restless, ever-changing world? Los Angeles gallery Subliminal Projects aims to answer this question with Boundless/Binding, a group exhibition featuring new work from globally based Middle Eastern female artists. Curated in collaboration with Emergeast, an online gallery that champions emerging to mid-career Middle Eastern and North African artists, Boundless/Binding runs through the end of March at Subliminal Projects.
The exhibition serves as a catalyst for dialogue and reflection, a space where the female perspective is celebrated and empowered in a time of profound social and political transformation throughout the Middle East. Woven together through the tapestry of self and tradition, Boundless/Binding emerges as a compelling examination of the shifting narratives that shape our understanding of identity and belonging.
“The artists in Boundless/Binding exemplify in their work what I consider to be art’s most profound potential: its ability to captivate visually with beauty and power while also sharing a unique social and cultural point of view,” says gallery founder Shepard Fairey. “I’m proud that Subliminal Projects can showcase the array of styles and voices that comprise Boundless/Binding.”
Contributing artists include Aliyah Alawadhi, Alymamah Rashed, Bouthayna Al Muftah, Dora Dalila Cheffi, Elham Etemadi, Hana Shahnavaz, Helen Zughaib, Leila Pazooki, Lena Kassicieh, Maliheh Zafarnezhad, Mays AlMoosawi, Myriame Dachraoui, Noor Abuissa, Reem R., and Shirin Sahba.
Boundless/Binding runs through Mar. 30, 2024, at Subliminal Projects in L.A. For more information, please visit their website here.
